Athletic Teams Recognized for Accomplishments

KENANSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – January 4, 2017 – Five high school athletic teams were recognized last night by the Board of Education and Duplin County Schools. Coaches and team representatives attended the meeting during which they were applauded for reaching regional and state-level play this year. 

 

Assistant Superintendent for Federal Programs, Student Support Services, and Athletics, Dr. Ben Thigpen, noted how proud Duplin County Schools is of all involved. “We are very proud of all of them.  We are proud of the wins, but we are also awfully proud of the coaches for instilling character in the players and the hard work they put in.”

 

Thigpen recognized the State Champion Soccer and Football teams from Wallace-Rose Hill High School.  North Duplin Jr/Sr High School Cross Country Coach Jeremy Jernigan accepted plaques and certificates on behalf of his team, which participated in the 2016-17 North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) State Finals. Accepting for the James Kenan Varsity Soccer Team was Coach Mitchell Quinn whose team participated in the NCHSAA 1-A Eastern Finals. East Duplin High School’s Head Varsity Football Coach Battle Holley accepted on behalf of his team that was recognized for participating in the NCHSAA 2-AA Eastern Finals.
